Quarantine

Before placed on exhibit all animals are submitted to a quarantine period. The Oceanário features a full level dedicated to quarantine, featuring multiple tanks fitted for different sized and different natured animals. During approximately 40 days all animals recover from transport-induced stress and are closely monitored for any signs of disease or presence of parasites. Whenever required, treatments are administered.

During this time animals are also introduced to their new diet. Care is obviously taken for this diet to simulate as closely as possible the animals' needs, health requirements and habits.

Quarantine is a critical phase during an animal's stay in the aquarium and correct planning and observation ensures that this stay extends over long and healthy periods of time.
