Internships

The Oceanário regularly welcomes interns in its Biology Department, which includes Aquariology, Maintenance, Water quality and Pathology.

In order to apply to one of our interns the following aspects have to be observed:

• You need to send us a document from the Institution you are affiliated to, confirming that you are indeed a student there and your stay in Oceanário will be fully covered by the institution's student insurance policy;
  
• You need to send us a fairly detailed proposal of what work you intend to do, including which objectives would you like to reach and how;
  
• You need to come to Oceanário for an interview. We might be able to waive this particular point if candidates live abroad but the interview will still take place upon your arrival at Oceanário. The interview always plays a decisive and final role on the decision of acceptance.

You should understand that if you are accepted you will become an Aquarist during the duration of your internship (minimum three months).

Important notice:

• This job implies working with mammals, birds, fish and invertebrates but it mostly implies lots and lots and lots of cleaning. Really, the vast majority of your time in Oceanário will be spent cleaning exhibits and surrounding areas;
  
• Interns do not get paid;
  
• Upon successful completion of your internship you will be given a Certificate, which certifies that you were an intern at the Oceanário de Lisboa. This document will provide a brief description of your duties and contacts for further references.

Schedule:
Aquarist work hours are as follows (daily from 7h30 to 16h30):

• Saturday/Sunday - off
  
• Monday through Friday (5 work days)
  
• Saturday/Sunday - off
  
• Monday through Sunday (7 work days)
  
• Monday/Tuesday - off
  
• Wednesday through Sunday (5 work days)
  
• Monday/Tuesday - off
  
• Wednesday through Friday (3 work days)
  
• And the cycle restarts... In other words, 5 working days are alternated with 7 and 3.
