A trip to the Primordial Ocean
The multiple tanks around the building are arranged in a way that conveys the message that there is in fact only one Global Ocean.
Since early days Mankind and natural phenomena conspired to divide the Ocean in various oceans and seas. However, the marine environment is a continuous one, with nothing more than physiological limitations barring living organisms from roaming freely throughout the four corners of the Planet.

At the Oceanário de Lisboa the four habitats reach to the centre of the building, embodying the oneness of the Ocean. The decoration and rock-work of each habitat stretches through the central tank, creating the illusion that the five tanks are, in fact, but one Ocean.
Four large acrylic panels are cleverly placed as dividers between each of the habitats and the central tank. Nonetheless, these are almost invisible and visitors are led to believe that all living creatures roam in one single mass of salt water.
