Name: Cobia
Scientific Name: Rachycentron canadum (Linnaeus, 1766)
Family: Rachycentridae
Group: Bony fish
Class: Fish

Size: 101-200 cm.
The body form of cobias is very similar to that of live sharksuckers. In fact, the juveniles are sometimes confused with these fish, as they also have black horizontal stripes on the body, which disappear in adulthood. Only in situations of stress do these stripes reappear. It is very common to find cobias close to other quite large fish, where they seek to find protection and food remains. It is a species well distributed around the world and is found in varied habitats: coral or rocky reefs, estuaries, man-made constructions and even mangroves.
