Name: Almaco jack
Scientific Name: Seriola rivoliana Valenciennes, 1833
Family: Carangidae
Group: Bony fish
Class: Fish
Size: 51-100 cm.
Almaco jacks are fusiform, strongly muscled fish, with keel like fins that make them one of the strongest and fastest swimmers in the sea. Adults live by rock and coral reef, feeding on fish and invertebrates. Meat from adult fish may cause ciguatera, since it accumulated toxins present in the animals they feed upon. Juveniles, single or in small groups, take shelter under floating algae, jellyfish or objects adrift.
