Name: Clown anemonefish, common clownfish, false clown anemonefish
Scientific Name: Amphiprion ocellaris (Cuvier, 1830)
Family: Pomacentridae
Group: Bony fish
Class: Fish
Size: 0-10 cm.
The clown anemonefish has a body covered in mucus that protects it from the poisonous stings of the tentacles of large anemones. This allows it to shelter from predators among the dangerous tentacles, without being attacked and eaten by the anemones. All clown anemonefish begin life as males, which can eventually change sex. When this occurs, the female becomes the dominant member of a group of males.
