This small fish lives in tropical waters on the periphery of coral reefs. Here, we will find it in groups mainly consisting of females and a few males. This is because it is an hermaphrodite species, in which all individuals are born female and eventually, later in life, will become males. These are distinguished by the long and coloured dorsal fin, which they display during courtship.
