Name: Roman, red roman, roman seabream
Scientific Name: Chrysoblephus laticeps (Valenciennes, 1830)
Family: Sparidae
Group: Bony fish
Class: Fish
Size: 26-50 cm.
The roman lives on rocky bottoms at depths up to 100 m, where it pursues invertebrates and fish that populate the substrate. The juveniles prefer to swim above shallow banks of marine algae where they can feed on small crustaceans. It is an hermaphrodite species in that the females, when they reach about 30 cm in length, change into males. These are highly territorial!
