Name: Boarfish
Scientific Name: Capros aper (Linnaeus, 1758)
Family: Caproidae
Group: Bony fish
Class: Fish
Size: 11-25 cm.
The boarfish is very easy to identify; it has a large eye, which contrasts with its small head, and its mouth is extendible. The females' body is reddish or pink in colour and the males can exhibit darker oblique stripes and are generally much smaller. It is a species that lives on rocky bottoms, where it forms dense shoals. On certain occasions, the youngest will head to shallow waters close to the coast where they can feed.
