Name: Dash and dot goatfish, dash-dot goatfish
Scientific Name: Parupeneus barberinus (Lacepède, 1801)
Family: Mullidae
Group: Bony fish
Class: Fish

Size: 26-50 cm.

This fish owes its name to the dark longitudinal stripe it has on its flanks and the black spot on its caudal peduncle (‘tail stalk'). The dash and dot goatfish lives in the shallows of coral reefs, in large areas with sandy substrates or a mixture of sand and gravel. It can also be observed in lagoons and on the periphery of the reef at depths up to 100 m.
