Name: Redtoothed triggerfish, redfang triggerfish, blue triggerfish
Scientific Name: Odonus niger (Rüppell, 1836)
Family: Balistidae
Group: Bony fish
Class: Fish

Size: 26-50 cm.

The redtoothed triggerfish lives on the periphery of coral reefs, in areas with currents, at depths up to 35 m. When it feels threatened, it hides in holes, with the tail turned outside. It is extremely difficult to remove this fish from its shelter, as it uses its dorsal fin as a hook to keep it well attached. The males are responsible for protecting the eggs, which the females deposit on the bottom. During this period, they become extremely territorial and can attack and bite intruders (including divers).
