Name: Picassofish, Picasso triggerfish, blackbar triggerfish
Scientific Name: Rhinecanthus aculeatus (Linnaeus, 1758)
Family: Balistidae
Group: Bony fish
Class: Fish
Size: 26-50 cm.
The Picassofish lives in coral reefs and lagoons up to 4 m deep, where its beautiful shapes and colours are unmistakable. When it feels threatened, it emits a strange humming sound and shelters inside a hole, with its tail facing out. Later the dorsal fin is used as a hook to keep itself attached. This makes it almost impossible to pull out of its hole! This interesting fish feeds during the day and rests at night, lying on its side on rocks.
