Name: Convict Surgeonfish
Scientific Name: Acanthurus triostegus (Linnaeus, 1758)
Family: Acanthuridae
Group: Bony fish
Class: Fish
Size: 11-25 cm.
Adult convict surgeonfish form dense shoals to take over feeding territories from other herbivores. There are filamentous algae in the lagoons and shallow areas of the reefs where they live. And juveniles are often seen in tidal pools. During the convict surgeonfish's reproductive season, the clouds formed by thousands of eggs are a favourite food source for some rays!
