This fish is distinguished from the threadfin butterflyfish by the absence of a filament on the dorsal fin and by the location of the black spots on its body. It lives in lagoons in zones rich in coral at estimated depths of between 1 and 15 metres. Like other butterflyfish, it can live in pairs or in bigger groups.
