Name: Goldbar wrasse
Scientific Name: Thalassoma hebraicum (Lacepède, 1801)
Family: Labridae
Group: Bony fish
Class: Fish
Size: 11-25 cm.
The goldbar wrasse owes its name to the yellow vertical bar next to its head, in contrast to its blue body (or black, in the case of juveniles). Solitary, it lives in lagoons and reefs, where it feeds on molluscs, corals or sea urchins. It has hard and powerful plates in its throat, which crush the resistant shells of these animals. Like other wrasses, it is an hermaphrodite fish, in which the females change into males.
