Size: 11-25 cm.
This small tropical fish from the same family as groupers forms large aggregations of females, with very few males - sometimes only one. This is due to the fact that the purple wreckfish is an hermaphrodite fish in which all individuals are born female and only should it be necessary do they change into males. We can find this fish in reef areas between 4 to 40 m deep, where it feeds mainly on plankton.
