Name: Pajama cardinalfish, coral cardinalfish
Scientific Name: Sphaeramia nematoptera (Bleeker, 1856)
Family: Apogonidae
Group: Bony fish
Class: Fish

Size: 0-10 cm.

The pajama cardinalfish spends the day sheltered among branches of coral, in lagoons and protected reefs. Only at night does it dare to emerge to feed on small invertebrates that it finds next to the sea floor. For this nocturnal life, it has large eyes, specially adapted for seeing in the dark. After fertilisation, the males guard the eggs in their mouth until hatching, during which time they do not eat.
