Name: Crevalle jack, common jack, jack mackerel
Scientific Name: Caranx hippos (Linnaeus, 1766)
Family: Carangidae
Group: Bony fish
Class: Fish
Size: 51-100 cm.
Crevalle jacks normally live in coastal waters, above the continental shelf. Juveniles seek shelter in estuaries on slimy bottoms or in algal beds. They form shoals that move with speed, although adults may be solitary. Their silvery body reflects light, allowing them to blend in with their surrounding environment. These fish make unusual grunt-like sounds.
