This species is frequently mistaken with large Bluefin tuna. It lives over the continental shelf but it will penetrate estuaries occasionally. This species is fished heavily and is highly prized by fishermen. The Atlantic bonito is also a voracious predator and will prey on small schooling fish, invertebrates (such as squid and shrimp) and even members of its own species!
