The porkfish owes its name to the sounds it emits when the volume of air varies inside its swim-bladder and when it grinds its teeth. The juveniles feed on parasites of bigger fish, as opposed to the adults, which prefer invertebrates with hard carapaces. They live in coral reef or rocky areas, at depths between 2 and 20 metres.
