Name: Laced moray, blackspoted moray, honeycomb moray
Scientific Name: Gymnothorax favagineus (Bloch & Schneider, 1801)
Family: Muraenidae
Group: Bony fish
Class: Fish
Size: 201-400 cm.
The laced moray can grow to 3 metres long, which makes it one of the largest morays in the Indo-Pacific. It lives concealed in caves and cracks in coral or rocky reefs, where it finds its favourite food - octopus. Like other morays, it attacks when it feels threatened and the larger individuals can cause serious injuries. Sometimes, by accumulating toxins from the animals on which it feeds, its own flesh can become toxic and thus cause ciguatera.
