Name: Meagre, atlantic shadefish, maigre
Scientific Name: Argyrosomus regius (Asso, 1801)
Family: Sciaenidae
Group: Bony fish
Class: Fish
Size: 201-400 cm.
The meagre is a fish with a long elongated body, almost spindle-shaped (fusiform). It has a very obvious lateral line. This is a receptive organ that detects sensations, indicated by a series of pores along its body. It lives on sandy bottoms up to 200 m deep and travels as far as lagoons and estuaries, given that it can tolerate significant changes in water salinity.
