Name: Lookdown, moonfish, jack
Scientific Name: Selene vomer (Linnaeus, 1758)
Family: Carangidae
Group: Bony fish
Class: Fish
Size: 26-50 cm.

With its very high head and extremely compressed body, the lookdown is an easily recognisable and unmistakable fish. Juvenile lookdowns shelter in estuaries or beaches and are distinguished by their well-developed pelvic fins and the long tendrils, which extend from their dorsal fins. Adults, however, live in more exposed waters, on sandy or slimy bottoms. They swim in schools or in pairs, while feeding on animals on the sea floor.
