Name: Greater amberjack, greater yellowtail, allied kingfish
Scientific Name: Seriola dumerili (Risso, 1810)
Family: Carangidae
Group: Bony fish
Class: Fish

Size: 101-200 cm.

The greater amberjack is a fast and untiring swimmer, thanks to its fusiform or spindle-shaped and strongly muscular body, with fins that function as keels. The adults spend the winter in deep waters (up to 330 m) and approach the coast during spring and summer to reproduce. The juveniles, solitary or in small groups, shelter under floating algae and drifting objects. Because of its diet, in some parts of the world, it can cause ciguatera.
