Tuna are extremely valuable and much appreciated around the world due the excellent flavour and quality of their meet. In 1995 more than 35 million tonnes of blue-fin tuna were fished worldwide. Great oceanic migrations are interrupted during the Summer, which is the time these animals approach inshore and breed. Larger tuna will lay over 10 million eggs in one single breeding season. The life expectation of these animals is approximately 15 years. They may reach 4.5 metres in length and weigh over 500 Kg! Blue-fin tuna are impressive and striking animal, swimming powerfully with their metallic blue coloration.
