The Atlantic cod fishing industry is one of the oldest and most important fishing industries in the Atlantic. However, due to intensive fishing, this species is considered vulnerable. For this reason, it is subject to rigorous regulation that aims to ensure its future. The Atlantic cod populates waters near the sea floor at depths up to 200 m, where it forms large shoals that disperse at sunrise to feed. During the breeding season, males court females by exhibiting their fins and also emitting grunt-like sounds. This species can grow up to 2 m and weigh 96 kg!
