Family: Scyliorhinidae
Group: Sharks, rays and chimaeras
Class: Fish

The striped catshark has an elongated body and long nasal barbels. The grey body has a pattern of black horizontal stripes that allows it to blend in with the environment. This harmless fish with nocturnal habits lives next to the bottom in coastal waters. It spends the day in caves and the cracks of rocky reefs, from the tidal zone up to depths of 200 m. The female produces two eggs, protected by capsules, which have tendrils for attaching to algae or other structures.
