Name: Branch coral
Scientific Name: Goniopora sp. Blainville, 1830
Family: Poritidae
Group: Anemones, corals and jellyfish
Class: Invertebrates
Size: 26-50 cm.
The polyps in this coral are particularly elongated and finish with 24 tentacles that surround the oral area, strongly reminiscent of daisies. These tentacles are only visible during the day and retract at night. This species is particularly common in those areas of the reef where turbidity is higher. Colonies are often shaped like a hill.
