Name: Fetus coral
Scientific Name: Clavularia sp.
Family: Clavulariidae
Group: Anemones, corals and jellyfish
Class: Invertebrates
Size: 26-50 cm.
Polyps from this coral are thick and large and spray out from a common base, which adheres to the substrate. They are star shaped, with 8 points and have the ability to, when disturbed, quickly retract while leaving absolutely no soft or vulnerable tissue available for predators to take. The most common colour is green, although a yellowish tint is not uncommon. It is a particularly common species and will populate massive areas along a reef.
