Name: Finger coral
Scientific Name: Sinularia polydactyla
Family: Alcyoniidae
Group: Anemones, corals and jellyfish
Class: Invertebrates
Size: 11-25 cm.
The colonies of this species resemble a set of fingers held upright. Though these species are very easily identifiable, discerning the various species amongst this genus is no easy task. This minute identification process will often involve a close look at sclerites, which are minuscule calcareous particles that live embedded on corals' tissue. This species may be found in the lower areas of a reef, especially where turbidity is higher.
