Name: Colt coral
Scientific Name: Cladiella sp. (Macfadyen, 1936)
Family: Alcyoniidae
Group: Anemones, corals and jellyfish
Class: Invertebrates
Size: 26-50 cm.
This coral forms incrusting colonies. When the polyps are exposed it shows a dark colour, mostly due to the presence of symbiotic photosynthetic algae (zooxanthellae). When disturbed it will retract. It is mostly common along the elevated areas of the reef.
