Name: Sand-rose anemone
Scientific Name: Urticina columbiana Verrill, 1922
Family: Actiniidae
Group: Anemones, corals and jellyfish
Class: Invertebrates
Size: 11-25 cm.
Anemones are lonely animals, though they may form densely populated aggregations. They are close relatives of corals and, likewise, have tentacles with urticating cells known as cnydocists. This species lives on sandy bottoms, below the influence of tides. Their column is easily discernible from others, due to its ruggedness and easy adherence of small fragments of rocks and sand.
