Name: Tube anemone
Scientific Name: Cerianthus sp.
Family: Cerianthidae
Group: Anemones, corals and jellyfish
Class: Invertebrates
Size: 26-50 cm.
Tube anemones are a member of the jellyfish, coral and anemone Phyllum. They closely resemble these latter ones, although Cerianthus develops a tube around their colun as they grow. At the slightest sign of danger, they will quickly hide inside this tube. They mostly live on sandy bottoms, with their tubes buried in the sand, and feeding mostly on plankton using their tentacles.
