Golfinhos no Sado

Come to the Sado Estuary and be amazed by one of the few resident populations of dolphins in Europe, and the only one in Portugal, with around 30 bottlenose dolphins. The name “bottlenose” in English is due to being the larg-est species of beaked dolphins, but their Portuguese name, translating as “rodent dolphin” (golfinho-roaz) comes from their history of eating through the fishermen’s nets to steal their fish . Despite these creatures being tough and reach-ing up to four metres in length, they manage to jump high out of the water to the amazement of anyone who catches a glimpse of them. More discerning dolphin watchers will even be able to recognise the different individuals by the marking on their dorsal fin.
