Dusky salamander

Biology

This is one of the most common salamanders in North America. Dusky salamanders may breed in either spring or fall. Eggs are deposited in small compact clusters, containing 12 to 26 eggs, in areas near water.

Conservation

Watercourse pollution and urban pressure are considered threats to this species.

Curiosities

During the eight-week incubation period, females remain near their eggs.
