Pipa

Biology

The pipa is a master of camouflage, it is almost completely flat with a triangular head, similar to a mottled brown leaf. It has tiny eyes, no teeth and no tongue. It inhabits humid forests, where it can be found in swamps and still water.

Conservation

The major threats are deforestation and agricultural and urban pressure.

Curiosities

After mating, its eggs remain between the bodies of the male and female. They are then absorbed into the skin of the female's back and emerge, three to five months later, fully formed as miniature frogs.
