Aggregating anemone

Biology

This aggregating anemone features a green column that ends in five rows of green tentacles with pink tips. It has the ability to expand the base of its column in two directions until it tears in half, generating a new anemone. They live in intertidal areas, in groups of clones that are extremely aggressive towards anemones that are not clones of themselves. Whenever it is necessary to disperse to new habitats, this species can also sexually reproduce.

Curiosities

The green and olive colours of this anemone’s body come from symbiotic unicellular algae that live in its tentacles, oral disc and column.
