Anchor coral

Biology

While most coral species are identified by their skeletons, the anchor coral can be distinguished from other species by its polyps, with their characteristic tentacles. The tentacles, most visible during the day, have rounded, C-shaped points, and together they can completely hide the skeleton of the coral, causing it to resemble an anemone.

Conservation

Coral reefs around the world are in danger. The major threat to corals is global climate change, high temperatures and ocean acidification. Localized threats to corals include fisheries, invasive species, dynamite fishing, chemical fishing, pollution, sedimentation, and human recreation and tourism activities.
