Blood Star

Biology

This small starfish can reach up to 12 centimetres in diameter. It lives in intertidal zones and over 400 metres in depth, in rocks or crevices. It feeds on from sponges and on tiny particles which are captured on the surface of its skin.

Curiosities

With a red body, it has five arms on the tips of which it exhibits light-sensitive cells, which are used to look for shelter in dark places.
