Bubble tip anemone

Biology

This sea anemone may have two distinctive forms, which vary with depth. Large solitary adult specimens, with tentacles that are more streaming or stringy, are often found in deeper waters with more dimly lit conditions. Younger specimens prefer shallower waters, nearer to the surface, in bright sunlight. There they gather in groups or colonies of anemones whose tentacles have the bulbous tips that are characteristic of the species.

Curiosities

A characteristic of this species is its ability to maintain a symbiotic relationship with various species of clownfish. The anemone receives defence against predators and also nourishment; in return, the anemone provides the clownfish with shelter.
