Boxwood

Biology

The boxwood grows in chalk - and limestone - derived soils, in sub-woods of beech (Fagus sylvatic) and sometimes in open dry brushwoods, particularly in the Mediterranean area. This species is used in gardens for topiaries (sculpted shrubs) and hedges.

Curiosities

The flowers are very fragrant, pollinated by insects, and its leaves are green to yellow-green. It makes a fruit capsule with three lobes, which have three to six seeds.
