Ceriman

Biology

The ceriman is an easily recognized plant due to its extraordinary leaves: large, glossy green, with a single slit and perforated. In the wild this is an evergreen vine that climbs rain forest trees, attaching itself to branches and supporting itself with long tentacle-like aerial roots.

Conservation

It exhibits an interesting feature because upon germination it will grow in the direction of the darkest area until it finds the base of a tree from which it can continue to grow. From there it will climb the tree towards the light and may even surpass the canopy of the tree.

Curiosities

It produces an edible fruit, extremely tasty, which gave it its scientific name.
