The zebra seabream is a littoral species, common on rocky bottoms. Occasionally it swims on sandy or muddy bottoms at depths of up to 300 m. It forms groups of 4 or 5 individuals of different sizes, which feed on algae and small invertebrates that live on the sea floor.
