Certifications and Accreditations
As part of its development strategy, the Oceanário de Lisboa has implemented an Integrated Quality and Environmental Management System. The Oceanário de Lisboa was the first public aquarium in Europe to achieve the ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environment) and EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) certifications. In 2005, the Oceanário de Lisboa received the 2005 EMAS Award.
The Directorate-General for Employment and Labour Relations (Direção-Geral do Emprego e das Relações de Trabalho – DGERT) has accredited in 2009 the Oceanário de Lisboa as a training entity, officially recognising its ability to organise professional training sessions.
These certifications evidence the Oceanário’s unwavering commitment to its mission with high quality and environment levels and represent the recognition by independent and credible entities:
| The procedures followed aim to ensure that the Oceanário is able to offer high-quality products and services, able to meet customer needs and expectations, while minimising environmental impact;
| The processes, practices, methods and resources used at the Oceanário allow it to establish quality and environmental policies and goals, by focusing on the identification and management of the environmental impacts of its activities, products and services;
| Every year is reported to all stakeholders (Environmental Statement) all activity and environmental performance of the organization.
