European tree frog

Biology

The European tree frog is a small bright green amphibian with very big eyes. Its colour can change, depending on the substrate in which it is found, the temperature and the level of humidity, it can be brown, yellow or grey. Lives in humid and highly vegetated areas, where it can climb on trees.

Conservation

Loss and fragmentation of habitat, pollution of wetlands and use of pesticides.

Curiosities

Males attract females by producing a distinctive call and embrace them from behind to fertilize the eggs; this hug can last for 30 hours. Females lay then about 1000 eggs.
