Rubber eel

Biology

This species resembles an eel in shape and in the way it swims. It grows up to 55 centimetres, with a gray to black body colour. It is an aquatic species, living in rivers, marshes and lakes, and is only rarely found on land.

Curiosities

The eggs develop into larvae inside the body of the female, who gives birth to fully formed individuals, after 220 days. In less than a year the new rubber eels will grow up to 25 centimetres, half of adult size.
