Voltar

Strawberry poison frog

Biology

This venomous frog lives in rainforests and varies its colour from bright red with black spots and dark blue hind legs, to green with black spots in more isolated populations. This bright colouration serves as a defence against predators, to court females and to protect its territory.

Conservation

The major threats are pet trade and habitat loss due to agriculture and urban pressure.

Curiosities

The female carries the individual tadpoles to separate water filled leafs and lays unfertilized eggs to feed them.
