Inca tern
Biology
The inca tern is found in coastal islands and cliffs where it takes burrows, fissures, caves and old holes of other species for nesting. It feeds in large flocks but never too far away from the coast.
Conservation
The total population has been estimated at than 150,000 individuals. In case of food shortages, these terns disperse rapidly, avoiding high mortality rates.
Curiosities
Near the beak the inca tern has two curved white feathers, mustache-like, that give it a majestic look. Juveniles of this species of tern have dark beak and feet, which become red as it matures.
