Bluering angelfish

Biology

The bluering angelfish has a unique colour pattern, but owes its name to the blue ring it exhibits on the head area. This is a tropical species that lives in coastal rocky coral reefs between five and 30 metres in depth. There we can find them swimming in pairs while hunting for food during the day and in caves at night. They may also form harems in which one male defends a territory with two to five females.

Curiosities

Juveniles start out with a black body covered with alternating, vertical blue and white stripes. As they mature those stripes disappear, the caudal fin whitens and the background becomes dark orange to brown. Horizontal curved lines also appear along the body of the adult.
