Canary damsel

Biology

The canary damsel is a sub-tropical species which, in Portugal, is found only in the warm waters of the Azores and Madeira. It is a territorial fish which deposits its eggs on rocks on the seabed. As they grow, juveniles seek shelter from predators in tidal pools.

Curiosities

The male then tenaciously defends the eggs until they hatch.
